CBA is an group of Commercial Real Estate Brokers and individuals practicing in affiliated disciplines or support organizations from all phases of the commercial real estate transaction process. Representatives include commercial real estate brokers, business brokers, lenders, developers, contractors, consultants, architectural and engineering firms, attorneys, title underwriters and building inspectors.
The organization was founded 1983 by a group of independent commercial real estate brokers who were looking for ways to network and discuss market activity and trends as well as to share information on their listings. At the time, Sears & Roebuck had acquired Coldwell Banker Real Estate and was starting to put residential brokerage offices at their retail locations. The commercial brokers had concerns that they would branch out into the commercial real estate business.
The CBA Board met monthly to come up with the programs which were designed to be able to “make the members money” and included State Real Estate Commission Auditors, State and Local Legislative Representatives, Title Company Representatives, Trust Fund Representatives, etc. They had 40-50 commercial real estate brokers attending the regular monthly meetings and very few associate members.
The group pre-dates Costar, Xceligent and Loopnet web-based databases and thus proved an effective way of marketing commercial listings. Members completed many transactions as a direct result of the relationships they developed within this organization.
Past CBA programs have included state and local legislature representatives, county appraisers, Board of Realtor representatives, TIF commissioners, developers as well as many other topics of interest to commercial real estate practitioners covering a broad spectrum of topics to include: Green Buildings, Financing/Banking Trends , Light Rail, Brownfields, 1031 Exchanges, Tenants-in-Common, Historic Tax Credits, Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and County Appraisal Trends.
Members of the CBA are also members of other commercial real estate organizations that include: CCIM, SIOR, KCRAR, BOMA, NAIOP, CREW, ICSC and NAR.
TODAY
CBA launched its new Website in 2009 which includes contact information for each of its’ members as well as links to their company websites.
